An essential part of every complete blast operation is properly selected and well-maintained operator safety equipment. Two of the most important components in this category of equipment are the supplied air blast hood(fed with “Grade D” breathing air) and its air purification system. When functioning properly, these two items will provide the operator with clean, cool and comfortable air – an absolute must for getting through any blast project. Listed in the section below are the industry’s most common abrasive blast hood assemblies. There are numerous ways to properly set up an efficient (and compliant) breathing air system so please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have. For your reference, we have attached a thorough explanation of what constitutes “Grade D” breathing air in a blasting application. This information is also listed in our technical library section listed at the top of the page.

Clemco Apollo 600 Blast Hood

Clemco’s Apollo 600 was designed to be a well-rounded hood with an emphasis on operator safety and comfort. It features a spacious shell that accommodates heads of all sizes and allows enough room for ear muffs/plugs and safety or prescription glasses if needed. The operator’s head can be seated in a standard hard hat style suspension or the upgraded DLX suspension which features a fully enclosed foam padded shell. The DLX suspension also allows the hood to sit more securely on the operator’s head making it more responsive when moving the head from one direction to the other. The Apollo 600 comes standard with a constant flow quick disconnect valve at the operator’s belt allowing for unregulated air flow from the purifier. An optional cool or hot air tube can be outfitted in place of the constant flow fitting for situations where incoming air temperature control are desired. All components of the hood are replaceable and multiple lens configurations are available

RPB Nova 2000 Blast Hood

RPB’s focus has always been improving productivity through operator comfort. The Nova 2000 has been a pioneer in this mission and features custom fitted internals which are not only comfortable but functional. These padded inserts totally encapsulate the operator’s head for responsive movement and an increased noise reduction level. The head dome and inserts are removable and machine washable for long term sanitary use and can be easily changed out to accommodate various head sizes. All components of the hood are replaceable and it features 5 different cape options as well as a variety of lens configurations to suit all types of applications. The Nova 2000 comes standard with a constant flow quick disconnect valve at the operator’s belt allowing for unregulated air flow from the purifier. All RPB hoodsoffer three options for climate control allowing the operator to cool or heat incoming air to their preferred temperature.

RPB Nova 3 Blast Hood

The newest entry in RPB’s hood lineup is the NOVA 3 Blast Hood. This hood is an upgrade to the NOVA 2000 platform and offers complete customization on multiple components of the hood. Every aspect of this hood’s redesign was implemented to increase ease of use and operator comfort – air flow is better directed into hood eliminating lens fog and cold spots on the operator’s head, the inner lens assembly can now be replaced in a fraction of the time, the inner pads are now more comfortable and the viewing window has been enlarged for better visibility. The few bolt-on components installed on the NOVA 3 can be easily (and quickly) removed with the integrated hex lock key located within the hood. For those looking for ways to improve visibility without area or hose mounted lights, the NOVA 3 features the first integrated LED blast light system which provides focused lighting in the operator’s line of vision. The Nova 3 comes standard with a constant flow quick disconnect valve at the operator’s belt allowing for unregulated air flow from the purifier. All RPB hoods feature three options for climate control allowing the operator to cool or heat incoming air to their preferred temperature.

Bullard 88VX Blast Hood

The Bullard 88VX Series hood has been an industry standard for decades! Its simple design and proven functionality make this hood a good choice for any blasting application. It features a standard hard style ratchet or snap together suspension and a variety of cape choices to give the operator plenty of choices when outfitting the hood. For added comfort, the hood can now be upgraded with padded cheek inserts to allow for a more secure fit to the operator’s head. The 88VX comes standard with a constant flow quick disconnect valve at the operator’s belt allowing for unregulated air flow from the purifier. Bullard hoods are compatible with all Bullard and Clemco brand climate control devices giving the operator numerous options to cool or heat incoming air to their preferred temperature.

Bullard GenVX Blast Hood

The GenVX is the new and greatly improved version of Bullard’s 88VX Series hood. It is one of the lightest hoods on the market and has greatly improved cooling capabilities compared to its predecessor. It too features a standard hard style ratchet or snap together suspension and a variety of cape choices to give the operator plenty of choices when outfitting the hood. For added comfort, the GenVX is available with machine washable padded cheek inserts to allow for a more secure fit to the operator’s head.Bullard hoods are compatible with all Bullard and Clemco brand climate control devices giving the operator numerous options to cool or heat incoming air to their preferred temperature.
